23 Ammunition and Explosive Ordnance Disposal

Marine Corps OccFld 23 covers ammunition support and the much narrower explosive ordnance disposal lane. It is a field built around accountability, explosives safety, and technical trust.

This field is a good fit for Marines who like procedure, discipline, and serious responsibility more than loose day-to-day work. It is not built around improvisation or image.

The two big questions in this field are simple: do you want the broader ammunition-support lane, or are you trying to understand the much narrower EOD route? Those are related communities, but they are not the same job. That distinction matters because 2336 is a selective lateral-move path, while 2311 is the more standard public entry point into the field.

Which Role Fits You?

Choose 2311 Ammunition Technician if every infantry unit, artillery battery, and aviation squadron needs someone who knows exactly how to receive, store, account for, and issue the ordnance that makes everything else work.

Choose 2336 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician if you get the call.

Common Entry Requirements

All enlisted Marines in this occupational field enlist with a minimum AFQT of 31, a high school diploma, U.S. citizenship, and MEPS medical clearance. Boot Camp is the first training gate: 13 weeks at MCRD San Diego or Parris Island. After graduation, Marines complete Marine Combat Training or the Infantry Training Battalion before attending their MOS-specific school. See each role’s profile below for specific ASVAB line scores, training details, and additional requirements.
